Award Winning Cottages on the English Riviera where historic charm meets modern day luxury

Pilgrims Rest Cottages is a collection of three unique, award winning cottages that have been welcoming guests year round since 2009. This collection of cottages is located within the conservation area of Barton, one of the historic villages that make up the popular seaside town of Torquay, South Devon.

Originally the barns of a 15th Century Devon longhouse, 'The Old Manor Farmhouse', these handsome cob and stone buildings have been graded by English Heritage as a site of ‘National Importance’; now the  oldest residency on the English Riviera with reputed links to The Spanish Armada .and the Prince of Orange becoming King no less!

Pilgrims Rest offers the quaint Sweet Rose (1 Bedroom, sleeps 2), cosy and beautiful Honeysuckle (2 Bedrooms, sleeps 4) and the grand Threshing Barn (4 Bedrooms, sleeps 8), each with their own character, charm, and able to welcome infants and our four legged friends. Historic features such as stunning oak beams and spiral stairs make prominent features throughout all properties, but you will also find luxurious modern comforts with super king or king sized beds, roll tops baths, Smart TV's and super-fast Wi-Fi. Vaulted ceilings and Velux windows add to the sense of space and light in these beautiful buildings.

The cottages can be booked individually or altogether, sleeping a total of 14 plus infants, making it the perfect base whether traveling as a couple, solo, with friends, family or extended families.

Sheltered from the prevailing South Westerly winds by the tors of Dartmoor, the area basks in its own micro-climate  where in the gardens of Pilgrims Rest, you will even see grapevines and palm trees! It was found in  the early 19th century, by fashionable, well-heeled royalty and gentry. Unable to travel abroad, they did not just visit, but also built their second, third or fourth home! Indeed, it became the richest town outside the Cities. Now with its proximity to Dartmoor it makes the perfect year-round destination for exploring both coast and country

Nestled just over a mile inland, between the pretty coastal villages of Maidencombe and Babbacombe, Pilgrims Rest Cottages offer a slice of tranquillity without being too far off the beaten track. An excellent selection of local convenience shops are within a couple of minutes walking distance, beaches less than 5 minutes drive and an abundance of restaurants, cafes, pubs and attractions of all types that you would expect from a premier resort like the English Riviera and Torquay; all within 3-10  minutes away. Choose the pace that suits you for your time away, with either leisurely days on the nearby beaches, walks seeing some stunning scenery taking in some rather lovely local fayre, a day of retail therapy in Torquay, or for those who are drawn to the sea or sport, why not try out Stand Up Paddleboarding, Kayaking, Jet Skiing, Fishing, Sailing, Golf, Horse Riding, Cycling and more!

A further bonus is the cottages' wonderful gardens. From the sunny courtyard at the entrance of the properties, to a beautifully furnished orchard garden featuring an oak table and chairs, sun loungers and a BBQ to enjoy in those blissful summer evenings, the secure outdoor spaces are perfect for your four-legged friends or young travellers.

Pilgrims Rest Cottages have made it to 7 finals in the “English Riviera and South Devon tourism” awards (2012-2021), winning bronze, silver and even a gold within the ‘Best Self-Catering’ and ‘Most Dog friendly Business’ categories.
