Location
Famous for fishing, art and those colourful houses lining the harbour, Brixham is one of the busiest fishing ports in the UK and is home to some of the finest sea food you can think of, but it isn’t just about fishing. Brixham is also rife with art and culture and has several unique attractions suitable for the whole family.
Brixham is a great destination for art lovers, the town has a great range of art galleries that feature local artists as well as showcasing visiting installations. On the Strand, you’ll even have the opportunity to see artists working.
The town also boasts a museum and tours around the coast so you can get a real taste of its maritime heritage. Brixham is the home of the Golden Hind replica, a recreation of Sir Francis Drake’s flagship. Visitors can experience life on board and explore all five decks, it’s a great exhibition for kids learning about the Tudors or for adults who want to find out a bit more about the UK’s history.
Being a fishing port, you can expect a great choice of seafood restaurants with many independent, local establishments offering menus made from fresh local produce. It isn’t all fish though, Brixham’s restaurants and cafes are also supplied by an excellent selection of butchers and green grocers. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
For walkers, The South West Coast Path will take you as far as your legs will carry you, and entertaining the little ones couldn’t be easier with Paignton Zoo, The Dartmouth Steam Railway and Splashdown at Quay West all within a short drive.

"It is not often that my wife and I make a point of reviewing our stay at any accommodation during our travels, but Heathcliff in Brixham was a wonderful experience!
Provided by Saltwater Escapes, the hilltop apartment boasted excellent facilities and stunning views of both Brixham Harbour and Torbay as a whole.
As a family of four, with two small children, we found the living space large and inviting, especially having a private glass-balustraded balcony perfectly placed to enjoy the magnificent summer sunsets to the west over the Dartmoor hills.
The bright, roomy bedrooms are comfortable and calming, while also perfect for those who wish to be greeted with the morning sun before heading out for a five minute walk to the tidal pools below (although, I will add that the hillsides are extremely steep for little ones, so bare that in mind before heading out). The master en-suite was well-sized and much appreciated!
The kitchen felt as equipped as a five-star resort chalet, fully modernised and inviting for those nights where the budding chefs amongst us would wish to flex the culinary skills. The coffee machine was a nice touch, especially with energetic children bouncing with excitement for the day's activities.
I would recommend Heathcliff to both families and adult-only groups not only for its perfect location in a highly sought-after area of both Brixham and Torbay as a whole, but also the warmth and comfort provided. It is in walking distance to Shoalstone Beach, Berry Head National Nature Reserve and the beautiful views from the Brixham Breakwater.
We are already wanting to book our stay for next year!
Thank you Saltwater Escapes!"
