Description

Albury House is a thatched 17th century spacious, stylish and comfortable family home in the centre of Charmouth, ideal all year round for large families to enjoy quality time together. There are two attractive reception rooms, each with a television and comfortable seating, plus a library and reading area, with a separate conservatory with a table and chairs. The well-equipped kitchen has an Aga and family dining area, that extends galley style with two further areas to allow for easy meal preparation and includes a dedicated coffee station with pod machine. A study, a useful utility area and a cloakroom, complete the ground floor accommodation.

Two separate staircases lead you to the five first floor bedrooms and all are all light and airy, with four having en-suite facilities. A generous family bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower enclosure completes the first floor accommodation, along with a small snug area off the rear landing. For those wishing to accommodate 12 guests, a fold-away bed or sofa bed are available when booking.

Guests are well catered for with Fibre Broadband, Sky with Sky Sports HD and Sky Cinema HD, an Xbox 360 and plenty of games, books, DVDs and children’s toys. Outside there is a pretty and enclosed large garden, mostly laid with lawn adorned with trees and shrubs; with a good-sized paved terrace complete with wooden table and chairs for 10, a parasol and barbecue. A full-size table tennis table, football net, cricket set and trampoline will ensure that everyone will enjoy time spent outside and there is plenty of off-road parking at the rear of the property.

The local shops, takeaway and pub are just a short stroll away and famous Charmouth Beach is just a five minute walk from the front door. The beach is great for families with lots of sand, especially at low tide, safe swimming, picnic areas, cafe and beach shop, and is perfect for rock-pooling, fossil hunting and exploring the Jurassic Coast. The beach has been filmed regularly for television programmes due to its unique Jurassic history and dinosaur connections, and the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil displays and organises fossil finding walks. Nearby is ever-popular Lyme Regis with its iconic Cobb, beaches and fossil museum. A short drive away are West Bay with its harbour, Abbotsbury with its Swannery, the market town of Bridport and the county town of Dorchester. What a wonderful house - comfortable, quirky and incredibly well equipped. Perfect for a family holiday - 3 generations. The garden with nets, trampoline and table tennis kept our 5 grandsons entertained. And the house was 'made' for games of Hide & Seek/ A wonderful family place to stay - so handy for the village, beach, buses and convenience store. Highly recommended.

We so love this house/home! And what an amazing week we have had, altogether for a week as a family from Singapore, Dubai and Salisbury. The weather has been beautiful everyday, for crabbing, walking, boating, swimming, picnics and it is just the perfect house for all ages. - the 4 little cousins loved the garden, goal and trampoline - and we (the grandparents) loved watching them play together after so long. This is our 'go to' house - just perfect, and our 2nd stay - and please may we return?!

We chose Charmouth for a family holiday as it offered something for everyone. Our group ranged in age from 2 to 80 and the house and garden provided everything we needed, including a large sheltered garden and plenty of space indoors. We were fortunate to enjoy a dry, sunny week, but were reassured that there was a good selection of activities available indoors as well. We’d definitely consider coming here again and would certainly recommend it to others.

Albury house was to allow the gathering for the celebration by family(8) of a 70th birthday! It did not disappoint. All very straight forward by Dorset Hideaways to secure for our time. The house and gardens all very spacious as is the parking for easily for 4 cars, which we needed. The generous welcome pack allow us to get off to a good start, tea and cake all round. Blessed with sunshine the trampoline and full size quality table tennis table and kit came into their own for the young, and young at heart, leading to the need for a trophy. Full use also made patio and garden furniture as garden also gets its fair amount of sun. Entertainment in the house also well catered for given our mixed ages. Tech savvy persons an advantage from older(74) point of view. Team work enabled full English breakfasts to be produced from the Aga and conventional cooker. The Royal Oak pub across the road from the house needs a mention, did us proud(11), Saturday evening and Sunday lunch, need to book early, as great food good value and the "Team" for attentive service. Midweek too.

We had a lovely family holiday, we loved the garden, table tennis and trampoline . Being able to walk down to the beach and further from the house was also an advantage. It took us a while to navigate the kitchen but it was fully equipped. The maintenance man was immediately available and helpful. Thank you.

Our 4th year, and an excellent property as the children begin to grow up. With 3 seating areas, the big family kitchen table, the safe garden and the terrace with the barbecue, it caters excellently for our 3 families, with children niw from 2 to 8 A new fence and trampline this year, but otherwise just the same as ever.

Our post lock-down escape to the seaside has been brilliant. The house has everything we could have needed and Charmouth is delightful. The bakery does excellent bread and we might have sampled the scones more than once! The East beach was our favoured spot for some bucket and spade work, our children enjoyed the digging almost as much as me! Thank you so much. Just off for a final bounce on the trampoline.

Firstly, so lucky with the weather considering how wet it has been! Wonderful house, perfectly equipped, exceedingly comfortable and "Happy Aura"! Location provided all we required for a short break, sea air on Saturday and tasty lunch in Symondsbury followed by Colmers Hill trail. Jolly good for us all, thank you. A beautiful house with enclosed garden. Inside was every thing you needed for a Family holiday - and so much more. It was well furnished with plenty of rooms for everyone to do their own thing and was spotlessly clean with plenty of towels . The cooking utensils, China, glasses cutlery were plentiful and immaculate clean. There were toys, games, books, for children and adults. Also trampoline and table tennis outside. The situation close to shops , beach and bus stop were ideal. We have been having family holidays for years and this was the best house by far. Can’t wait to return next year!

Thank you for a wonderful stay in a perfect cottage. Although the weather was mixed, we all had a great time, especially the walks down to Charmouth beach which was so convenient. The fossil hunting trips was great fun for all 3 generations in our party. The guys made a trip to "Palmers Brewery" and they said it was the best brewery trip they had done - very informative. It was so nice to have all the little extras included that makes renting a property so helpful. We all love the artwork and just the whole feel of a truly loved cottage. We would recommend to anyone thinking of holidaying this way.

Excellent property for a larger family get together. Albury House exceeded our expectations for a wider family get together of 9 people including three young children/babies. The facilities were great, especially the patio area and BBQ adjacent to the house. The kitchen had an unusual layout, but was great for family dining with the working AGA which was really appreciated. Bedrooms, living area, conservatory and bathrooms are all excellent. Will seriously consider staying again.

The extended family of 9 really enjoyed our stay in a fantastic house for an extended family get-together. For the children (both small and large) enjoyed Sidmouth Tramway, Abbotsbury Farm and Swannery. Gastromic high light was the Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock. Coastal walking also fantastic. The garden and barbecuing also lovely in the surprisingly good weather.

This house has been truly wonderful for the 10 of us and it really has met our every need for an intergenerational group. Thank you so much for the festive touches - was so nice to have a Christmas Tree! The cake on arrival was lovely too! We had M&S cater Christmas lunch but it was all cooked in your lovely AGA! So much to love about this house and all the home comforts. We did the Charmouth Christmas morning swim. We also went to the Crib Service on Christmas Eve at the church opposite. Charmouth fish bar served us well for takeaway one night - lots of choice for varied family palates! We all hope to be back another time!
