Description

Vanstones Cottage is a quintessential thatched cottage tucked away in the idyllic hamlet of Stoke, near Hartland on the rugged North Devon coast. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of the coast, this charming retreat is ideal for couples, small families, walkers and guests looking to enjoy a quieter pace of life in one of North Devon’s most scenic corners.

The cottage has been thoughtfully updated while retaining plenty of traditional character. Entering from the rear, guests step into a spacious Shaker-style kitchen overlooking the garden. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering stays, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. From here, the separate dining room provides a cosy space to enjoy meals together before leading through to the sitting room. This welcoming room is full of cottage charm, with comfortable seating, an ornamental fireplace, Smart TV and DVD player, making it a lovely place to unwind after a day exploring the coast or countryside. The family bathroom is located on the ground floor and includes a bath with fitted shower, wash basin and WC.

Upstairs, reached via the cottage’s original steep and winding staircase, are two characterful bedrooms with exposed beams and traditional cottage features. Bedroom one has a double bed, while bedroom two has twin beds placed together, making the layout well suited to a small family or friends sharing. Due to the age and character of the cottage, guests should be aware that there are some low beams upstairs.

Outside, the private south-facing rear garden is a real highlight, with garden furniture and rural views providing a peaceful setting for morning coffee, an alfresco lunch or an evening drink. Livestock may sometimes be grazing in neighbouring fields, adding to the relaxed countryside atmosphere. There is also a lockable bike shed with an electrical socket suitable for charging e-bikes, making Vanstones Cottage a convenient choice for guests wanting to explore the surrounding lanes and countryside on two wheels. Private parking is available for one car.

From the cottage, guests can enjoy local walks towards Stoke, Hartland Quay and the surrounding coastline, while Hartland village and the wider North Devon coast are all within easy reach.
