The nearest station is Stogumber, which can be reached on foot via local footpaths or by a short drive from the lodge. On train operating days, guests can enjoy the charm of the heritage railway, with steam and diesel trains running through the countryside between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead.

The newly created train-spotting platform at Watermead Lodge is a unique feature for guests, offering a lovely place to watch the trains pass through the surrounding countryside. It is a particularly special addition for railway enthusiasts, families and anyone looking to enjoy something a little different during their stay.

The wider area is also excellent for birdwatching and wildlife spotting, with open countryside, mature trees and peaceful rural surroundings attracting a variety of birds and wildlife. Guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature from the decking, garden areas and surrounding lanes.

For days out, the nearby West Somerset coast offers a great mix of seaside villages, beaches and coastal walks. Blue Anchor is a popular choice for a relaxed coastal visit and can be combined with a trip on the West Somerset Railway. Kilve Beach is also within reach and is known for its dramatic cliff scenery, rock formations and coastal walking.

Watchet is another lovely place to visit, with its harbour, independent shops, cafés and maritime history, while Minehead offers a traditional seaside day out with a beach, promenade and access towards Exmoor. Dunster, with its historic village atmosphere and castle, is also a popular nearby destination.

Closer to the lodge, guests can explore local villages, countryside walks and traditional Somerset pubs. The Quantock Hills and Brendon Hills offer scenic routes, peaceful lanes and wonderful viewpoints, while Exmoor National Park is within reach for longer walks, wildlife spotting and dramatic moorland scenery.

Family-friendly attractions nearby include Tropiquaria Wildlife Park, with animal enclosures and play areas, and Torre Cider Farm, a family-run cider farm shop and café near Washford.

A beautiful lodge in a beautiful area of the country. Lovely welcome goodies and everything needed for a home away from home. Only here for two full days but enjoyed walks in Lydeard hill area and blue anchor beach, as well as around the lanes near the lodge. Each was within a half drive and with plenty of supermarkets within a similar distance, we were able to cook in the well equipped lodge. Our dog enjoyed his walks and exploring the grass area at the rear of the lodge. And he loved seeing the horses and the train which passed several times during our time at the lodge and was amazing to see so close. Our hosts were very generous, checked in with us to make sure everything was ok but left us to it which was exactly what we wanted. Thank you G & A! Highly recommend this property and best wishes to our hosts for allowing us to enjoy our stay here

Our first, but not last, visit coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the WSR steam railway. We found the friendly engine drivers always blew their whistles if you waved to them. We found Watermead lodge the perfect place to chill out and enjoy a slower pace of life thanks to our lovely hosts George and Ash. We enjoyed watching the day old lambs just outside our window and the two dogs Reggie and Wilbur were very friendly. The lodge had everything you needed for a perfect break and we enjoyed our stay immensly. Thank you.
